HISTORY
1927The Shipyard was founded in 1927, originally as a private workshop intended for the repairs of wooden vessels and the new-building of wooden boats.
1946In 1946 the development and the expansion of the facilities commenced, orientated to the repairs and building of wooden vessels.
1951 - 19551951 - 1955 development programme realization: workshops, slipway and wharf building with the change in production concentrating on the building of steel vessels up to 3000 DWT.
1968By 1968 the following vessels and facilities were built within the Yard's premises: 3 cargo vessels (800 DWT), 2 fishing-boats (33 m), a sea dredger (65 m), a number of barges up to 1400 DWT and pontoons, and floating steel dock of 10000 t lifting capacity for Yard's requrements, which is "Dock 6" today.
1969 - 19761969-1976 period marks the beginning of shiprepairs orientated activity, which has been the Yard's major activity since then. "Dock 6" was put into operation in 1969 and by January 2001, 1026 drydocking operations were carried out in it.
1976At the same time another development programme was also in progress and completed in 1976 by new floating dock "Dock 12" putting into operation, with 33000 t lifting capacity, built by GHH Company, Germany. By January 2001, 766 drydocking operations were carried out in "Dock 12". In addition to this dock, new working premises and equipment were provided through the realization of this programme.
1979At that time when the shiprepair activity was in full swing, the disastrous earthquake destroyed most of the technical facilities (except docks and part of shore) on 15th April 1979.
1985The reconstruction of the Yard was completed in 1985, the design and build being sensitive to the region's seismic stability, utilising methods in accordance with the latest technological recommendations.
1995In 1995, the Yard became a Joint-Stock Company, on completion of the first stage of transformation. Complete privatization will be accomplished through the second stage of transformation which is still in progress. Since then the Yard operates under the title "Adriatic Shipyard Bijela Joint Stock Company Bijela.
